xx World Othello Championship 2009
November 23, 2009, 12:37:04 am von _Lichkoenig_

With 70 player it was the 2nd biggest WOC ever (right behind japan 2006 with 84 participants).
New world champion is the 17 year old Yusuke Takanshi, who beat Matthias Berg in the final. In the semi-final Matthias won against Makoto Suekuni. Thereby Matthias is the first german player that reached a WOC final.
Japan won the team championship with 28 points. The german team (26 pt.) banished the teams of Poland (25pt.) and Italy (23.5 pt.) on positions three and four.
New female world champion is Mei Urashima. She won the ladies final against Veronica Stenberg from Sweden and thereby overtakes the trophy from Liya Ye who brought the trophy to Germany in Oslo 2008. Unfortunately Liya Ye couldn't come to the WOC. Her replacement Marlis Elger could clearly improve her result by 1.5 points compared to the WOC 2007 and she outpaced more than half of all participants by reaching position 32.

 Results of the german players:
 Platz 2 Matthias Berg            9.5
 Platz 7  Sebastian Schmidt     9
 Platz 19 Andreas Hoehne       7.5
 Platz 32 Marlis Elger              6.5

xx Update
April 30, 2009, 04:30:31 pm von xmav000
Hi,
I am sorry that we did not have an update for the frontpage in over a year. Almost one year ago our server went offline, and we needed to find a new one.
Now we already moved for the second time and most parts work again. Unfortunately we still have problems with the wiki and that is why I waited with the update.
The forum works again (incl. applet) and PHP is running well too (for language chooser). The old wiki still has got 1-2 bugs, but we are trying to move to a different wiki software (MoinMoin->Media).
The reason why I decided to come up with an update now is because:
The 2nd Germany EGP is coming soon, and we need to put information online.
June 6th and 7th 2009, the EGP will be held in Cologne.
At http://egp.othello-club.de/ you can find up to date information.

So what happened last year?
  • Andreas Hoehne won the German Championship 2008, in Landau.
He beat Matthias Berg in the finals with 2-1. Congratulations to his second DM title.
  • Michele Borassi won the Overall European Grand Prix
Michele won five EGP stages and therefore won the Overall European Grand Prix with the best possible score, which was 1000 points. That makes him the European Champion 2008.
  • Michele Borassi wins the World Othello Championship 2008 in Oslo
As the first italian and third european World Champion, Michele Borassi makes an excellent Othello season. Italy has got a new hero!
  • Liya Ye wins the Female World Othello Championship for Germany.
In an exciting final Liya Ye beat the reigning Female World Champion Yukkio Tatsumi (Japan). Since the beginning of the Female World Championship in 2005, Liya is the first non-japanese player that has won this title.
  • Matthias Berg wins bronze in the World Othello Championship 2008.
As in the previous year, Matthias Berg did reached the 3rd rank again.
The german WOC team reached as many points as in WOC2007.
This time the german team consisted of Matthias Berg, Joerg Gaertner, Stefan Murawski and Liya Ye.
